The Suffolk University Baseball finished a 12-inning affair with 12th-ranked Wheaton College in a 5-5 tie on Friday afternoon at Sidell Stadium in Norton, Mass.
Three Suffolk relievers combined for seven innings of scoreless relief of the mound but neither team go put home the go-ahead run as dusk set in leaving the game without a winner.
Junior Justin Knight (Hackettstown, N.J.) was 3-for-6 with a pair of RBI to lead Suffolk offensively, while fellow classmate JC Collette (Amesbury, Mass.) scored a pair of runs with two base hits on the day.
Trailing 5-2 heading into the sixth, Suffolk would score twice to make it a one run ball game heading into the later innings. Collette would single with one out down the left field, before sophomore Rob Marks (Revere, Mass.) followed him with a single to left that managed to skip past the outfield moving both runners into scoring position. Junior Adam Johnson (Georgetown, Mass.) would knock in the first of two runs in the frame with an RBI groundout, before Knight collected his second run scoring single of the contest.
Down a run in the ninth, senior Devan Jones (Roslindale, Mass.) would knock in the game tying run on a fielder's choice with one out and the bases loaded. Freshman Luke Ronchi (Randolph, Mass.) started the inning by drawing a one out walk, before senior Mac Jacobson (Norfolk, Mass.) followed up with a hit by pitch and senior Jake Cintolo (Wrentham, Mass.) added a single to keep the rally going.
Suffolk would have runners on base in each of the extra three innings but could not find the hit they needed to take the lead as they finished the game with 13 runners left on base.
Juniors Mike Masulli (Prospect, Conn.) and Paul Pollano (North Andover, Mass.) pitched three innings of scoreless relief before giving way to freshman Mark Fusco (Medford, Mass.) who three the final four frames of the game while only allowing one hit.
Suffolk will be back in action on Saturday afternoon as they travel to Rhode Island College for a noon doubleheader with the Anchormen.
