Offense Opens Up For 24 Runs in Victory Sunday

The Suffolk University Baseball team pounded out 24 hits en route to a 24-6 victory over the University of Pittsburgh-Greensburg on Sunday afternoon in Winter Haven, Florida.

Three players recorded at least four hits on the day, while all nine starters in the lineup scored multiple times as Suffolk rolled to their second victory in as many days to move to a 2-1 record to start the 2013 season.

The Rams scored 19 times through the first three innings, including a nine run third inning that saw them score all of their runs with two outs in the inning.

Junior Jake Cintolo (Wrentham, Mass.) paced the offense with a 4-for-6 day with five RBI and three doubles. Senior Chris Stanley (Placentia, Calif.) finished the day with four hits in six at-bats driving in fours runs, while scoring three times and sophomore Justin Knight (Hackettstown, N.J.) also recorded four hits as he drove in three runners including a two-run double as part of a six run second inning.

Junior Jonathan Richard (North Reading, Mass.) earned the win on the mound as he threw five innings for Suffolk striking out four hitters. Richard allowed two runs in the outing on nine hits.

Junior Mike Muse (Milton, Mass.) scored four runs on the day as he collected three hits, while junior Mac Jacobson (Norfolk, Mass.) came across to score four times as he drew a pair of walks and was hit twice by pitches.

Senior Mike Cunningham (Syosset, N.Y.) continued his strong start to the season with a 2-for-5 day scoring twice and driving in a run.

Freshman Alex Gabler (Uniontown, Pa.) knocked in three runs as he was 3-for-5 on the day, while junior Jack Sullivan (Hamilton, N.Y.) also collected a pair of singles for Suffolk.

Suffolk will be back in action on Monday as they take on Dickinson College at 6:00pm at Lake Myrtle Park as they continue their annual spring trip.
