Baseball Sweeps Emerson

The Suffolk University Baseball team swept the Emerson College Lions in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) double header on Wednesday afternoon. Suffolk used a complete game effort by senior Tim Belanger (Raynham, Mass.) in game one to cruise to a 7-3 victory, before they rallied for eight runs in the fifth inning of their game two, 10-6 victory in the nightcap.

In game, Belanger picked up his second victory of the season on the hill allowing two earned runs over seven innings while striking out five hitters.

The Rams scored in every inning but the second in the opening game of the double header as sophomore Jake Cintolo (Wrentham, Mass.) finished game one with a pair of RBI, and senior Dan Belanger (Raynham, Mass.) drove in two runs for the Rams.

Trailing 2-1 entering the fifth inning of game two, Suffolk exploded for eight runs. Cintolo once again came up with the big hit as his two-run single put the Rams up for good.

Freshman J.C. Collette (Amesbury, Mass.) would add an RBI double later in the inning, and sophomore Jack Sullivan broke the game open with a two-run single later in the inning.

Junior Jhonneris Mendez (Boston, Mass.) finished the game 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Freshman Mike Massuli (Prospect, Conn.) earned his first collegiate win on the mound for Suffolk in the nightcap as he pitched 2 1/3 innings of relief. Massuli came in relief of senior starter Brian Svensson (Wilmington, Mass.) who took the no-decision despite a solid 4 2/3 innings with three strikeouts.

Suffolk will be back in action this weekend as they have a pair of GNAC doubleheaders. The Rams will travel to New Haven for a noon matchup with the Falcons of Albertus Magnus on Saturday afternoon. Johnson & Wales University will travel to Quincy for a noon double header hosted by Suffolk University on Sunday.
