Sophomore Andy Sadowski (Harwich, Mass.) fanned 10 hitters in a complete game effort to guide the Bridgewater State University Bears to a 5-2 victory over the Suffolk University Rams in non-conference action Thursday afternoon at Adams Field.

Sadowski moves to 3-1 on the year as the win pushes the Bears to a 9-10 overall mark. The sophomore right-hander scattered seven hits over nine fulls innings and was unscathed until the ninth as the Rams managed to push two runs across as Suffolk now drops to a 5-11-1 record on the year.

Bridgewater opened the scoring in the top of the second inning. Junior Craig Stewart (Brockton, Mass.) drew a lead off walk that was followed by a base hit to center by junior Keane Costa (Fairhaven, Mass.). After a sacrifice bunt by junior Trevor Lawson (Easton, Mass.) to move both runners into scoring position, the Bears took advantage of a Suffolk error to scratch their first run of the game across with two outs in the inning when junior John Garabedian's (Marshfield, Mass.) ground ball to third was misplayed.

The Bears once again took advantage of a Suffolk miscue in the third inning as they loaded the bases with one out scoring their lone run of the inning another error.

Junior David Pierce (East Bridgewater, Mass.) knocked in a pair of runs with a single to left in the fourth inning to stake the Bears to a 4-0 lead.

Garabedian would add some insurance with a two-out RBI single in the eighth to plate Costa, who started the inning with a lead-off double. Costa finished the game 3-for-4 for the Bears, who managed to collect eight hits as a team in the contest.

The Rams would finally get on the board in the ninth as junior Jhonneris Mendez (Boston, Mass.) led the inning off with a double that got lost in the twilight. Junior Chris Stanley (Orange County, Calif.) doubled in Suffolk's first run of the game with a shot to left center and came around to score later in the inning on a single down the left field line by sophomore James McConville (Medford, Mass.).

Stanley had three of Suffolk's seven hits in the game, while McConville reached base three times in four plate appearances.

Sophomore Steve Chamberland (Bristol, Conn.) took the loss on the mound for Suffolk as he allowed seven hits over seven plus innings of work. Only three of the five runs he allowed were earned while he struck out four hitters.

Sadowski cruised through the game as he only allowed one Suffolk baserunner to reach third until the ninth inning, retiring eight hitters in a row through the fourth and seventh innings while striking out the side in the sixth.

Bridgewater will be back in action on Saturday afternoon as they travel to Framingham State for a MASCAC double header beginning at 1:00pm. Suffolk will host St. Joseph's College in GNAC action at Adams Field on Sunday beginning at noon.
