Baseball Sweeps Past Norwich in GNAC Double Header Action.

The Suffolk University Baseball team (11-12 overall, 4-2 GNAC) swept a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) double header over the Norwich University Cadets (0-15 overall, 0-4 GNAC) on Sunday afternoon.

Senior Mark Annese (Winchester, Mass.) was 5-for-8 with 6 RBI in the two games combined to help the Rams snap a four game skid as they took game one, 16-3 before grabbing an 8-5 win in the nightcap.

Suffolk scored eight times in the second inning of game one sending 13 men to the plate as they collected seven hits in the frame. Sophomore Andrew McCarty (Franklin, Mass.) produced the big blow of the inning driving in a pair of runs with a single to right. Freshman Jake Cintolo (Wrentham, Mass.) also collected a pair of hits in the inning to finish game one 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

The Rams collected 19 hits in game one as Annese, and Cintolo each had three while senior Nick Travelyn (Bedford, N.H.), junior Stephen Schultz (Salem, N.H.), and McCarty each had a pair of hits.

Junior Mitch Monke (Springfield, Mass.) picked up his second win of the season on the mound going six innings striking out a dozen Cadets.

Freshman Charles Schaub (East Hampton, Conn.) got the Cadets on the board in the fifth with a double to right center to drive in a pair of runs. Senior Dustin Fleming (Bridgeport, Vt.) knocked in another run in the sixth after freshman Devin Cilley (Turnbridge, Vt.) led the inning off with a triple.

Senior Charles Kilgore (Milford, N.H.) picked up the win on the mound in game two as Suffolk pulled out an 8-5 decision for the sweep of the twinbill. Kilgore only allow four hits in three earned runs in six-plus inning of work for the Rams, before giving way to sophomore Matt Sliney (Brockton, Mass.) in the seventh.

Senior Mark Addesa (Revere, Mass.) was a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI in the second game.

The Rams managed to jump out to an early three run cushion in the first as Annese capped the inning off driving in a pair with a single.

Freshman Devan Jones (Roslindale, Mass.) continued the scoring for the Rams in the second inning as he brought Addesa home to score hitting a single over the third base bag.

Norwich would make things interesting as they managed to bring the game to 4-3 in the fourth inning as junior Mitch Blair (Danby, Vt.) knocked home Cilley with a sacrifice fly.

Addesa would be a thorn in the side of the Cadets as he tagged up from third on a short pop up behind the second base bag to give the Rams some insurance in the fourth making it 5-3. He then got the Rams another run in the fifth as he doubled to deep center to give the Rams a 6-3 edge.

Annese and sophomore Remy Carpinito (Reading, Mass.) added back-to-back RBI doubles in the home half of the sixth to help cushion the Suffolk lead as they move to 4-2 in GNAC play this season.

Norwich will be back in action on Wednesday as they take on Castleton State in a non-conference doubleheader at 3:00pm.

The Rams will take on Salem State University in non-conference action at 3:30pm on Tuesday afternoon.
