Falcons Pummel Rams with 26-hit attack in 19-7 Loss.

The Fitchburg State University Falcons (7-10 overall) sent 17 hitters to the plate en route to a 12-run fifth inning to top the Suffolk University Rams (9-10 overall), 19-7 on Thursday evening.

Senior Brian Ware (Beverly, Mass.), senior Eric DiMauro (Foxboro, Mass.), junior Frank Yarovosky (Westminster, Mass.) and sophomore Jeff Boice (Glastonbury, Mass.) each had two hits in the 12-hit fifth inning barrage for the Falcons, who at one point had nine consecutive hitters reach base safely.

Boice finished the evening 4-for-7 with three RBI, while freshman David Mason (Leominster, Mass.) also picked up three runs batted in on a 3-for-6 effort.

The Falcons finished the evening with seven of their starting nine players in the lineup to record at least three hits on the evening in a 26 hit attack.

Sophomore Cody Bamforth (Vernon, Conn.) collected a pair of doubles in the game on a 4-for-5 night with a pair of RBI. Bamforth got the Falcons on the board in the fourth with his first of two RBI doubles driving a pitch to right center to plate the first run of the evening for the Falcons.

The Rams jumped out quick to an early 5-0 lead in the home half of the second inning as sophomore Remy Carpinito (Reading, Mass.) delivered a two-out RBI double off of the center field fence sending senior Mark Annese (Winchester, Mass.) home from first. Senior Nick Travelyn (Bedford, N.H.) then plated a pair of runs with a triple, before coming home to score on an RBI single to right by senior Mark Addesa (Revere, Mass.). Addesa would cap the five-run fifth for the Rams as he caught the Falcons sleeping on a disputed call at first base as the team thought they recorded the final out of the inning. After rolling the ball back on to the field and heading into their dugout Addesa alertly rounded third base and came home to score the Rams' fifth run of the inning.

The Falcons tacked on five more runs of their own in the top half of the seventh inning with Mason delivering the big blow with a two-run single as the Falcons once again batted around. Senior Nick Rocheleau (Leominster, Mass.) also added a sacrifice fly in the inning.

Sophomore Will Dawson (Narragansett, Mass.) and sophomore Zachary Bombria (Bolton, Conn.) pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings of relief for Fitchburg State.

Travelyn finished the game 3-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and three RBI on the evening for the Rams.

Fitchburg State will take on MCLA this Saturday in a MASCAC doubleheader beginning at 1:00pm. The Rams will be back in action on Saturday as well as they travel to Johnson & Wales University for a 1:00pm GNAC double header.
