Baseball Drops 5-2 Decision to Roger Williams

The Roger Williams University Seahawks (10-13 overall) scored four times in the top of the ninth inning to top the Suffolk University Rams (9-9 overall) by a 5-2 margin on Wednesday afternoon.

The Seahawks benefitted from a Rams bullpen that walked three in the ninth inning, as freshman Mike Pascarella (Milford, Conn.) broke a 2-2 tie with a bases loaded double to right center to drive in a pair.

Roger Williams started the ninth with back-to-back with to freshman Mike Thomas (Plainville, Conn.) and junior Mark Malcolm (Brockton, Mass.). Freshman TJ Oliver (Manchester, Vt.) then laid down a sacrifice bunt that was botched by the Suffolk infield to load the bases before sophomore John Oppenhimer (Westport, Conn.) drew a bases loaded walk to even the game. Junior Tim Georgen (Bristol, Conn.) added a sacrifice fly later in the inning following the Pascarella double to cap the four run rally.

Suffolk got on the board in the second as sophomore Chris Stanley (Orange County, Calif.) opened the scoring with a single up the middle to bring home freshman Jake Cintolo (Wrentham, Mass.), who opened the inning with a triple to center.

Suffolk took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning as junior Dan Belanger (Raynham, Mass.) drove in a run senior Mark Annese (Winchester, Mass.) with a high chopper back to the mound as the Rams put runners on the corners with one out.

Freshman Tyler Pogmore (Lebanon, Conn.) earned the win in relief for the Seahawks to move his record to 3-1 on the season as the righty pitched the final two innings striking out two without allowing a run.

Roger Williams will be back in action on Saturday as they take on Wentworth Institute of Technology in a Commonwealth Coast Conference doubleheader at noon. Suffolk will host Fitchburg State University at Adams Field in Quincy on Thursday evening. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00pm
