Box Score

The Suffolk University Baseball team had their best offensive day exploding for 22 hits as they defeated Ramapo College, 14-4. The Rams batted around in both the first and second innings jumping out to an early 10-0 to cruise to their third win of their spring trip.

Senior Bobby Barrett (Milton, Mass.) led the way going 5-for-6 on the day with four RBI and three runs scored, falling just shy of a home run for the cycle.  Senior Rory Gentile (Gloucester, Mass.) and freshman Chris Stanley (Orange County, Calif.) both had three hits each, while the Rams had seven of their nine starters in the lineup finish the day with multiple hits.

Suffolk got off to a quick start in the first as Gentile hit a double to left on a misplayed fly ball. Gentile came around to score as Barrett singled through the left side of the infield and then senior Marc Doyle (Whitman, Mass.) drove in the Rams’ third run of the inning with a single before an out was recorded. Junior Mark Addesa (Revere, Mass.) would later double home a pair of runs in the inning before junior Eric Del Buono (Westfield, Mass.) tripled off the center field wall knocking home the fifth run of the first.

Suffolk would continue their offensive assault in the second inning sending ten hitters to the plate scoring five more runs on four hits. Barrett had the big hit of the inning knocking home two runs sending a double into the right center gap. Stanley would drive home a run later in the inning rifling a single back through the middle.

The Rams would add two more runs in the third as Barrett once again struck with an extra base hit, this time tripling into right knocking home junior Andrew Babb (Ashland, Mass.). Barrett came around to score later in the inning on a groundout by freshman John Vigliotti (Amesbury, Mass.).

Sophomore Tim Belanger (Raynham, Mass.) picked up the win for the Rams going six innings allowing three runs on eight hits. Belanger started the game, after making two relief appearances earlier in the week gave the Suffolk rotation a much needed lift firing first pitch strikes to 21 of the 29 batters he faced in the game. Sophomore Brian Svensson (Wilmington, Mass.) pitched the final three innings picking up his first save of the season. Svensson entered the game in the seventh striking out the side after allowing a leadoff single.
