Winter Haven, FL -- The Rowan University Profs were able to hold off a late rally by Suffolk to preserve a 9-7 victory Sunday evening. Mike Swietanksi pitched 6 innings for the win and Todd Burdette earned the save for Rowan who now moved to 5-2 on the season. Suffolk (2-2) made several defensive miscues that helped lead to some big innings for Rowan. Sophomore Alex Torres (Framingham, MA) started on the mound for the Rams pitching five innings, fanning five hitters.
Bobby Barrett (Milton, MA) hit his first home run of the season in a four-run seventh inning for Suffolk. Barrett finished the game 2-5 with 4 rbi on the day.
Rowan jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Jordan Marsch doubled against the left field wall knocking home Tom Ready. Suffolk tied the game up at 1-1 in the 4th when Barrett knocked in senior Paul Vittozzi (North Reading, MA). Vittozzi led the inning off with a walk before stealing second and then Barrett knocked him in. Rowan would score five more runs over the next two innings as they would take over several defensive miscues by Suffolk, including an rbi triple by Keith Evans.
Senior Keith Carter (Newburyport, MA) and sophomore Jose Alejandro (Lowell, MA) each had rbi singles for Suffolk. Senior Mike Kenneally (Georgetown, MA) had two hits for the Rams and Rory Gentile (Gloucester, MA) and Paul Vittozzi each score a pair of runs for Suffolk.
Suffolk plays again tomorrow when they take on Ripon College (WI) at 2:45 pm.
