Winter Haven, FL - Senior Dan Delia (Boston, MA) pitched a complete game shutout to lead Suffolk to a 5-0 victory over Ramapo College on Wednesday. Delia punched out nine batters, scattering five hits over his nine innings of work. Sophomore Mark Addesa (Revere, MA) was 2-4 with two RBI on the day, as the Rams earned their fourth win on their spring trip.
Delia worked out of two bases loaded jams to preserve the shutout. Ramapo threatened early in the first, loading the bases in the first with nobody out. After recording the first out on a force play at home, Delia struck out the next two Roadrunners hitters. Ramapo would again load the bases in the fifth, but Delia would once again not allow a runner to cross home. From there Delia would cruise retiring the next 11 batters he faced heading into the ninth. Delia worked ahead of Ramapo's hitters for the entire game, with 29 first pitch strikes to the 35 batters he faced in the game.
Suffolk got out to a 1-0 lead in the second when Keith Carter (Newburyport, MA) drove in Mark Addesa on a fielder's choice. Suffolk took advantage of a Ramapo miscue in the third when an errant throw on a double play ended up in right field scoring Paul Vittozzi (North Reading, MA). Suffolk would score again in the fifth and then tacked on two more runs in the seventh.
Junior Marc Doyle (Whitman, MA) was 2-4 with 2 runs scored including a triple, while Vittozzi finished the day with two hits for Suffolk and senior Mike Kenneally (Georgetown, MA) added an RBI on a single in the seventh. Sophomore Nick Travelyn (Manchester, NH) also had three hits for the Rams.
Sophomore Antonio Imbimbo (Wayne, NJ) pitched 6 2/3 innings for Ramapo allowing four earned runs while striking out 7 Rams hitters. Sophomore Joseph Somma (Toms River, NJ) finished the game with two hits for the Roadrunners.
Ramapo plays again tomorrow when they play Edgewood College. Suffolk will play Salem State College (MA) tomorrow at 3:00 pm.
