Suffolk Wins on Final Day, 17-7

Auburndale, Fla. - Suffolk saved their best offense for the last day of the trip as they took care of Hamilton College by a score of 17-7. Junior Bobby Barrett (Milton, MA) was 4-5 on the day with 6 RBI to give him a total of 18 runs knocked in on the trip and senior Tim Doyle (Milton, MA) picked up his second win of the week on the mound for the Rams who finish their spring trip with a record of 7-3.

Suffolk got on the board early scoring two runs in the first. Junior Rory Gentile (Gloucester, MA) and senior Paul Vittozzi (North Reading, MA) got the game started by both drawing walks on eight pitches. Barrett drove in both runners by driving a ball deep into center for a double. Suffolk grabbed three more runs in the fouth as Gentile would drive in sophomore Mark Addesa (Revere, MA) with a single. Barrett again doubled in Gentile, and would be driven in by junior Marc Doyle (Whitman, MA) who followed up with an RBI single.

Suffolk would score six more times in the following two innings, highlighted by a two run homer by Addesa, the first of his collegiate career. 

Hamilton would not go quietly however as they tagged the Rams' bullpen for four runs in the 7th and two more in the 8th. Grady Vigneau was 3-3 with 2 RBI on the day for the Centennials, including a triple in the 7th. Sam Choate was 4-5, and Justin Atwood went 3-5, as Hamilton had 17 hits on the day.

Hamilton would cut the lead to 11-7, with two runners on and two outs, when Suffolk summoned sophomore Jon Handy (South Burlington, VT) from the bullpen. Handy got Wes Mayberry to pop out to left to end the threat earning his first save of the season.

Starter Tim Doyle pitched six strong innings for the Rams allowing only one run, while pitching out of trouble most of the day. Handy was also 2-4 on the day with an RBI as Suffolk's DH. Mark Addesa finished the game 3-3 with 3 RBI and 4 runs scored for Suffolk. Travelyn, Doyle and senior Keith Carter (Newburyport, MA) all had two hits each as Suffolk had 17 hits on the day and drew 11 walks.

The Rams begin their northern schedule on Tuesday and they travel to Wellesley to take on Babson College at 3:30 pm.
