Suffolk Rolls in Win over Falcons, 19-6

Box Score

The Suffolk University Rams pounded out 23 hits to defeat Fitchburg State College by a score of 19-6 on Tuesday, as Head Baseball Coach Cary McConnell picked up the 400th win of his coaching career.  All but one hitter in the Rams lineup had multiple hits on the day as Suffolk now moves to 16-4 on the season, and have now won nine of their last ten contests.

The Rams jumped out early grabbing two runs in the first, loading the bases with nobody out. Sophomore Jon Handy (South Burlington, VT) knocked in the first run of the game with a single to center.  Sophomore Mark Addesa (Revere, MA) then drove in the next run with a sacrifice fly to center. The Rams would add two more runs in the second inning, as junior Bobby Barrett (Milton, MA) drove in a pair with a double to right center.

The Falcons had trouble slowing down the Rams offense all day as Suffolk scored in all but one inning.  Suffolk's big inning came in the sixth, as they batted around bringing eleven hitters to the plate, scoring seven times on seven hits.

Senior Mike Kenneally (Georgetown, MA) and his new mustache led the offense, and he went 3-5 on the day. Junior Rory Gentile (Gloucester, MA), Barrett and Addesa all had three hits as well for the Rams. Barrett finished the game with four RBI, to bring his season total to 32.

Handy (1-0), making his first start of the year on the mound after being impressive in the bullpen, picked up the win. Sophomores Charlie Kilgore (Exeter, NH), Kevin McAvey (Summit, NJ) and Nick Okeefe (Taunton, MA) all saw action in relief.

Suffolk is back in action on Wednesday evening as they host Roger Williams in a non-conference matchup. Game time is at 7:00 pm under the lights at Adams Field in Quincy, MA.
