Cary McConnell Picks Up Win No. 400

Suffolk University Head Baseball Coach Cary McConnell picked up the 400th win of his career Tuesday evening as the Rams rolled to a 19-6 victory over Fitchburg State College. The win now moves the Rams record to 16-4 on the 2009 season. McConnell, who is in his 14th season at Suffolk has now guided the Rams to 345 victories since his hiring in 1996. In his tenure at Suffolk, McConnell has taken his program to three NCAA Regional appearances, three GNAC Tournament Championships, and five ECAC Tournament bids.  His 2000 team set a school record with 38 wins that season, as well as winning the ECAC Tournament Championship. That 2000 season pitching staff also led all NCAA Divison III in ERA that season posting a 2.69. He was named GNAC Coach of the Year in the 2000, 2002, 2005 and 2008 seasons.

A graduate of the College of Wooster (Wooster, Ohio), McConnell was a four-year starter in the infield for the Scots and was selected to the All-Decade Team for the North Coast Athletic Conference for the 80's. At Wooster, McConnell played in four straight NCAA Tournaments and one World Series finishing fifth. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and earned certification to teach at the Secondary level. In addition, he holds a Master's Degree in Educational Administration from the University of Rochester (Rochester, New York). McConnell was selected to the Medina County (Ohio) Sports Hall of Fame in April 2007. Coach McConnell also serves as Associate Director of Athletics at Suffolk University.
