Game 2 Box Score

East Boston, MA  -- The Suffolk University Baseball team (15-4, 5-1 GNAC) tied game one by stealing home, and seemed to steal the momentum on the same play as they cruised to a sweep of a GNAC double header on Sunday, taking two games from Emerson College (7-8, 2-2 GNAC). The Rams got more solid pitching as seniors Reid Jackson (Burlington, MA) and Tim Doyle (Milton, MA) each threw complete games as the Rams cruised scoring a combined 23 runs in the two game sweep.

Game 1

Down 3-2 in the fourth, senior Paul Vittozzi (North Reading, MA) swiped home to even up the score and quiet down the Emerson bench as the Rams scored 13 unanswered runs to defeat the Lions 14-3 in game one.

Emerson jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the 3rd when sophomore Brian Kitson (Londonderry, NH) drove a bases clearing double deep over the head of right fielder Keith Carter (Newburyport, MA) to take the lead.

Junior Rory Gentile (Newburyport, MA) got the offense back on track in the fourth as he lead the inning off homering to right. Paul Vittozzi followed Gentile by taking a pitch off the back and then swiped second base and advanced to third on a ground ball to the right side. With two outs, Vittozzi took advantage of a slow delivery by Emerson starter Zak Levine (Beverly, MA) stealing home, and swinging the momentum back to the Suffolk side.

The Rams would score 11 times in the sixth, highlighted by a grand slam by junior Bobby Barrett (Milton, MA). Suffolk would take advantage of three hit batsman and four walks as they scored eleven runs on only four hits.

Barrett finished game one with six rbi, while Gentile was 2-4 with four runs scored, while Vittozzi scored three times as well.

Jackson (4-1) settled in after the third, fanning eight batters en route to his fourth victory of the season and second complete game.

Game 2

Senior Tim Doyle (Milton, MA) held the Lions hitless for 5 1/3 innings in the second game of the double header as the Rams scored early and often in a 9-1 victory.

Sophomore Mark Addesa (Revere, MA) drove in a pair of runs with a double in the first to get the Rams going. Senior Nick Chioffi (South Burlington, VT) had two hits in game two, along with Barrett and Carter as the Rams knocked out 10 hits in the game and drew eight walks off the Lions' staff. Gentile finished the second game drawing four bases on balls.

Suffolk begins a busy six game homestand on Tuesday. The Rams will host Fitchburg State College on Tuesday at 4:00 pm at Adams Field and will then take on Roger Williams at 7:00 pm on Wednesday evening under the lights at Adams. Both games are non-conference matchups. The Rams will be back in GNAC action on Friday as they host Norwich University for a double header and host Albertus Magnus on Saturday.
