Rams Cruise Past Bears, 6-2

Box Score

Bridgewater, MA -- Senior Dan Delia (Boston, MA) picked up his third win of the year on the mound and Suffolk moved to 9-3 on the season defeating Bridgewater State by a score of 6-2 on Thursday afternoon. The Rams collected 13 hits on the afternoon and took advantage of five errors committed by the Bears to win their second game up north. Delia pitched 7 2/3 innings and sophomore Mark Addesa (Revere, MA) knocked in a pair of runs for Suffolk who have now won seven of their last eight contests.

Suffolk jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Addesa drove in the game's first run on a bases loaded single. Senior Keith Carter (Neburyport, MA) got the inning started with a single. Sophomore Jon Handy (South Burlington, VT) then singled to right. Both runners advanced a base on the play on heads up baserunning as Bridgewater State's right fielder bobbled to ball trying to hastily relay it back into the infield. Senior Mike Kenneally (Georgetown, MA) then drew a walk loading the bases for Addesa, who drove a line drive into left plating Carter.

The Rams tacked on three more runs in the fourth taking advantage of a couple of Bears' miscues. Carter got the inning started with a double and then moved to third as Handy picked up his second hit of the day. With runners on the corners, Mike Kenneally hit a line drive to second. Bridgewater's Mike Koneski tried to double off Handy at first but his throw sailed away allowing Carter to come home and score. With two runners on, junior Rory Gentile (Gloucester, MA) doubled into the left center gap, scoring two more Rams' runs for a 4-0 lead.

Suffolk added two more runs late in the game, one in the eighth and one in the ninth. Senior Paul Vittozzi (North Reading, MA) had an RBI single, and Mark Addesa picked up his third hit of the game in the ninth driving home Keith Carter, who scored three runs on the day.

Bridgewater scored in the 5th on a two out solo home run by senior Kelly LaDow (East Falmouth, MA). The Bears continued to threaten that inning as the next three hitters reached base to load them up, but Delia worked out of the jam forcing an infield pop up to short.

The Bears touched Delia for another run in the 8th. LaDow singled, and junior Matt Greenberg (Norwell, MA) followed him with a single. Senior David Kilowski's (Lowell, MA) two out RBI single would then chase Delia from the game with the 5-2 lead. Delia handed the ball off to Jon Handy who got out of the jam by getting David Dole (West Bridgewater, MA) to line out softly to second.

Handy worked an easy ninth inning to pick up his second save of the year, and Delia now moves to 3-0 on the mound for Suffolk. Carter and Addesa both finished the game 3 for 4 for the Rams, and Handy, Vittozzi and Gentile each added a pair of hits.

The Rams will now start their 2009 Great Northeast Athletic Conference schedule this weekend as they travel to Nashua, NH to play the Raiders of Rivier College in a double header on Saturday. The first game will start at 1:00 pm and will be played at Daniel Webster College.
