Athletics Host Annual Awards Night

The Suffolk University Athletic Department held their annual athletic banquet on Wednesday, April 22. All thirteen of Suffolk's intercollegiate varsity teams handed out awards to their student-athletes for exceptional performance throughout the 2008-09 seasons. Four student-athletes were also honored for their efforts away from the athletic fields. Seniors Brian Small (Stoughton, MA) of Men's Basketball and Jess Ferriera (Cambridge, MA) of Softball were honored with the Charles Law Student-Athlete Award. This award is given to a student-athlete who excels in both athletics and academics. This year Small became the first student-athlete ever from Suffolk University to earn Academic All-America honors from ESPN the Magazine. Ferreira has served as President of the Suffolk University Student Athlete Advisory Council for the past two years and is the reigning two-time GNAC Player of the Year as well as being named a preseason All-American for the 2009 Softball season. Senior Kevin Blake (Milford, CT) of Men's Basketball was named the Charles Melanson Unsung Hero. Blake, has been a member of the Rams' basketball team for four seasons while simultaneously serving as an Ambassador to prospective students in the Office of Admissions. Senior Bryan Meyers (Rochester, NY) of Hockey was given the Departmental Recognition Award. Bryan has volunteered his time and efforts of the past three years in helping set up and organize Suffolk's Annual Alumni Road Race held in September.

Over sixty other student-athletes and coaches were recognized on the evening for their successes this past year.
