If you were to enter a lab to create the perfect point guard, you would come out with Amber Conte.

A four-year starter at the playmaker position, the 5-foot-6-inch Conte ran the show for the Lady Rams and the court was her stage. A true point guard, who was more of a passer than a scorer, she directed the team to four winning seasons and the championship game of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tournament in her freshman year.

In 104 career games, Conte dished out a total of 394 assists, a program record at the time, and accumulated 111 steals. During her sophomore season (1999-2000), she averaged 5.2 assists per game, a number that would make Boston Celtics’ maestro Rajon Rondo proud.

Conte could best be described as a fierce competitor who gave her blood, sweat and tears for the good of the team. She also orchestrated the offense with poise and spearheaded the defense with tenacity.

“Amber was a tremendous leader, a winner, and the glue that held our teams together,” states current Suffolk head coach Ed Leyden. “We had the highest winning percentage ever during her years here. She was a tough kid who had a high basketball IQ.”

Conte’s education and passion for the game began at an early age. She grew up in a basketball family and played varsity all four years at Agawam High School under the tutelage of Coach Lou Conte, who also happens to be her dad.

While at Suffolk, Conte was also a major contributor on the Lady Rams softball team. She was a consistent all-fields hitter and a solid defensive third baseman. As a freshman, she hit .444 with a .564 slugging percentage and led the squad in hits (52), runs (32) and rbi (36). She was named to the GNAC All-Conference team that season as well as in her junior campaign.

Conte lives in Avon, CT with her husband, Ryan Hall, a golf pro. They have two children with one on the way.
