Year: 2011
Team: Women's Basketball

When discussing some of the finest all-around athletes to ever wear a Suffolk University uniform, Noreen McBride’s name has to be near the top of the list.

It didn’t matter what time of the year it was – fall, winter or spring – McBride performed her various skills for all seasons.  In fact, she achieved something most young people today only fulfill in their dreams – becoming a not one, two, three, but four-sport athlete.
Described by her head coach Ed Leyden as a “small forward with good guard skills,” McBride scored 1,075 points – in only three seasons – as a member of the women’s basketball team.  Because of her ability to score from both inside and outside, as well as being a solid rebounder and crafty ball-handler, she posed a tough match-up every night for Suffolk opponents.
McBride scored her 1,000th point on February 10, 1996 in a Suffolk road victory against Roger Williams University in Rhode Island.  She recalls that memorable evening with both disbelief and pride.
“Roger Williams was one of our rivals so it was good to get the win; reaching 1000 points was just icing on the cake,” said McBride.  “It was something that I never thought I would accomplish, but I’m very proud I did because it will always be there to look back upon.”
After starring on the basketball court for the Lady Rams, McBride was the starting catcher on the women’s softball team, including the 1996 squad inducted into this year’s Athletic Hall of Fame class.  When not bouncing or catching a ball, she still had one in her hands as a setter on the volleyball team.  In order to stay in shape, she also ran cross country for her alma mater.
A three-sport star (basketball, track and volleyball) at Fontbonne Academy in Milton, McBride received her bachelor of science degree in marketing from Suffolk in 1996.
Upon graduation, she continued her love of sports by coaching the junior varsity girls’ basketball, softball and volleyball teams at Notre Dame Academy in Hingham, where she also taught math.  A mother of two, she now works as a client services representative in the banking industry.
