Year: 2011
Team: Men's Ice Hockey

Evan Crockford was a beacon of light for the Suffolk University men’s hockey program throughout his dazzling and productive four-year career (1997-2001).  He demonstrated a spirited and relentless style that is fondly remembered by those privileged to have witnessed him perform on the ice for the blue and gold.

Crockford, who played center, is Suffolk’s fourth all-time scoring leader with 116 points (86 goals and 80 assists), just behind Brian Horan (302 points – 169 goals, 133 assists), and Brian Gruning 226 points (119 goals, 107 assists), both of whom are past inductees into Suffolk’s Athletic Hall of Fame, and Sean O’Driscoll (175 points – 73 goals and 102 assists).  His career goals and assists rank third and fourth, respectively, in the Suffolk record books.

While only 5-foot-7-inches tall, Crockford’s uncanny speed and stick-handling ability made him standout among teammates and opponents wherever he played.  He once scored four goals, including the game winner in overtime, during a dramatic 5-4 road victory by Suffolk over Framingham State College.

“It was a hard-fought, back and fourth game,” recalled Crockford.  “It was one of those nights I’ll always remember. Yeah, it was great to score four goals, but the most important thing is that we won.”

Crockford was named the Most Valuable Player of the Suffolk men’s hockey team in each of his four years playing for the Rams.  He was someone who could be counted to give his best every game, no matter what the scoreboard read.

In addition to being recognized for his athletic ability, Crockford was bestowed with the title of “captain” for four consecutive years.  His leadership skills, however, were not of the rah-rah, boastful variety.  He led by example, leaving everything he had – blood, sweat and tears – on the ice.

In his senior year, Crockford was the recipient of the coveted “Special Recognition” award by the Suffolk Athletic Department, selected among all student athletes, for his overall contributions to the department and the University.

Crockford is Marshfield High School’s all-time leading scorer with 214 points (108 goals and 106 assists).  He received his bachelor of arts degree in business administration from Suffolk and is an operations business analyst for an investment services company.
