Kathleen (Katie) Norton was an individual for all seasons during her outstanding athletic career at Suffolk University.

Winter or spring, inside a gym or on a field, she performed at the highest level as a multi-talented, two-sport star. Norton is the all-time leading scorer in women basketball history at Suffolk with 1,516 points.

The 5-foot-4-inch, left-handed guard was a pure shooter who could scorch the nets from anywhere on the court. She helped Suffolk qualify for the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tournament in each of her four years playing for the Rams. She was also named her team’s captain and Most Valuable Player her last three seasons, and selected a GNAC All-Star throughout her four-year career.

Her athletic brilliance was not limited to the hardwood floor. Norton was a top-notch centerfielder and pitcher on the Suffolk women’s softball team, doing whatever it took for the benefit of her squad.

In the spring of 2000, she made headlines as the NCAA National Division III batting champion with a stunning .606 batting average. She also finished third in the nation in RBI average (1.67 per game), and fourth nationally in stolen bases (48 in 58 attempts). A four-year GNAC All-Star, she once pitched a no-hitter and, on another memorable occasion, hit three home runs in one game.

Her senior season on the diamond was a family affair as Norton was coached by her father, Bob (interim head coach), brother, Pat, and uncle, Bob Glynn (the latter two serving as assistant coaches).

The Rams posted a winning season (19–14) that year and finished with a .415 team batting average to lead Division III nationally in that category.

Norton was the recipient of the coveted Charles Law Outstanding Student-Athlete Award in 2000. Today, she inspires others as a special education teacher in Boston.

In 2010 Norton was inducted into the GNAC’s inaugural Hall of Fame as well.
