Lake Named Carol Maggio Department Recognition Award Recipient

BOSTON – Suffolk baseball's Shane Lake has been tabbed the 2020-21 recipient of the Carol Maggio Departmental Recognition Award, Director of Athletics Cary McConnell announced Monday afternoon.

The award is dedicated in honor of Carol Maggio, the department's longtime Administrative Assistant, who served the Rams for over 18 years and is given to a person(s) who has been a valuable asset in the day-to-day operations of the Athletic Department.

Lake is the third baseball student-athlete to take home the recognition since 2008-09 joining Jon Lapolla '16 and Sean Cameron '17.

When not on the backstop of the baseball diamond, or working towards his Bachelors of Science in Big Data & Business Analytics, Lake has been an everyday presence in the Athletic Department, especially over the last year, in which the department was limited to game-day staff due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.

"In an anything, but normal year, with very limited help for game-day, Shane's responsibility and dependability was a true asset," Sports Information Director Amy Barry. "I'm not sure I could have provided a high-quality game-day experience for Suffolk University's student-athletes, without his help."

When he isn't aiding in the production of game days, he has caught for the Suffolk baseball team for three seasons including a GNAC Championship run as a rookie in 2018. He has taken the field in 60 games with 119 plate appearances.  He has registered 23 hits including three doubles to bring in 17 runs and score 21 himself. Defensively, he has caught 10 runners stealing and assembled a .990 fielding percentage.
