Rams Rewind: Baseball Defeats No. 1/3 UMass Boston March 24, 2018

BOSTON – Ram Nation now has the chance to get a glimpse into Suffolk Athletics history though clippings and pictures from the Rams’ record books and archives.

On this date four years ago, March 24, 2018, the Suffolk baseball team upstaged No. 1/3 UMass Boston Beacons, 3-1, in game two of a twinbill at Monan Park.

The Rams took an early edge and held onto it behind the standout performance on the hill from senior pitcher Charles Batchelder. The right-handed hurdler grabbed the win as the tossed six straight shutout down innings with just one unearned run on in the seventh. The senior finished the outing with a three-hit, five-walks stat line through 7.0 innings.

Mark Fusco took over for Batchelder in the eighth and preserved the upset-win behind 2.0 innings of scoreless, hitless relief with one punchout.

Offensively, Batchelder’s classmate Brady Chant had a multi-hit day with a 2-for-3 plate performance with one RBI, one walk and a pair of steals. Will Hopkins produced one hit to go along with one walk, one run and two stolen bases. Trevor Lee chipped in one hit and one RBI, while Tim Brigham (one walk) and Zach Grogan each scored one run apiece for the Rams.

To completely relive and rewind to the triumph, the program's first-ever over the top nationally ranked team, check out the box score and recap.
