Scoring Drought Comes to an End, Monks Tip Rams 1-0

STANDISH, ME - Saint Joseph's (9-4-2, 8-0-2 GNAC) remained undefeated in conference play by defeating Suffolk University (3-8-2, 0-8-2), 1-0, at Westerlea Way Field on Tuesday afternoon. Mikayla Call '11 (Portland, ME/McAuley) scored in the 58th minute, off a pass from Katherine Chambers '13 (Hampden, ME), to put the Monks ahead to stay.

The goal from Call, her third of the season, ended a scoring drought for the Monks that spanned over 260 minutes of play and two and a half games overall. The Monks dominated the offensive attempts tally during the scoring outage - St. Joe's outshot opponents by a staggering 60-12 margin during this time - but the best of those attempts seemed to find metal, the keeper's outstretched hands, or sail wide of the net.

SJC keeper Katye Mayo '10 (Fairfield, ME) made four saves to record her fourth shutout of the fall and 20th of her career. Mayo is one of just three goalies in program history to reach 20 shutouts in their career.

Suffolk netminder Emily Joyce '11 (Easton, MA) made 12 stops in goal for the visitors and Sonja Carpenter '13 (Woburn, MA) recorded three shots, with two finding the net.

For the Monks, Call, Jennifer Keaney '13 (Scituate, MA), Heidi Stucki '10 (Oakland, ME), Anna Willis '10 (Gorham, ME) and Lauren Hagerman '10 (Scarborough, ME) registered at least three shots apiece in the triumph.

Saint Joseph's will play at Emmanuel (11-5-1, 8-2-1 GNAC) in an important conference contest on Saturday at 3:00 PM, while Suffolk is set to host Albertus Magnus on Saturday at 1:30 PM.
