Worcester State 3, Suffolk 1
Boston, MA --- Freshman Nick Asterito
(Philadelphia, PA) notched the game-winning goal on an assist from
freshman center freshman John Cahalane (Tewksbury,
MA) to lift Worcester State, 3-1, over Suffolk in men's ice hockey
on Saturday evening.
The Lancers even out their overall (2-2) and ECAC Northeast (1-1)
records while the Rams slip to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in their first
conference contest of the season.
Junior Nick Davis (Pittsburg, PA) started the
scoring for Suffolk when he recorded his second marker of the
season at 9:41 on helpers from classsmate Mike Mondello (Revere,
MA) and senior John Rocchio (East Greenwich,
RI).
WSC evened the scored nine minutes later on a tally from
first-year Tom Pappa (Oswego, NY) with sophomore
Andy Orsini (Rochester, NY) and classmate
Chris Wallin (Avon, CT) adding assists on the
play.
After both teams played a scoreless second stanza, Asterito broke
the tie at 14:54 in the third period on Cahalane's second assist in
as many games.
Worcester State senior defensemen William Knauber
(Buffalo, NY) added his second goal of the season on a feed from
freshman Cody Warila (Shirley, MA) on an empty
net, justbefore the end of the contest.
The Lancers outshot the Rams 37-22 while both teams a combined
0-11 on power play opportunities.
Junior Andrew Evans (Cromwell, CT) stopped 21 of
the 22 shots he faced as he picked up his second win in as many
starts. Sophomore Jeff Rose (Collinsville, CT)
collected 34 saves between the pipes for Suffolk.
Worcester State will host regional rival Nichols on Wednesday at
5:30 PM while the Rams will entertain Wentworth on Tuesday at 7:15.
