Volleyball Takes Down Framingham State in Straight Sets

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – Suffolk volleyball handed Framingham State just its third loss of the year and halted a 10-game win streak for the host as the blue-and-gold bested FSU in straight set fashion Thursday night at the Athletic Center on the campus of FSU. The sweep came via set scores 25-10, 25-16 and 25-21.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk controlled matters in the first frame as it scored the first seven points of the night and turned that advantage into an 18-2 cushion. Framingham State rallied back with an 8-2 run, but a kill by Sami Shore followed by an attack error from Anna Szymanski locked up the opening set win for the blue-and-gold.   

The Boston Rams put up the first six points of the second stanza. Framingham State bounced back with a 7-1 stretch to level the playing field at 7-all. Suffolk broke up the tie with a 6-1 spurt to regain the lead, 13-8. The blue-and-gold maintained the advantage and sat in front 20-16, which forced the host to use a timeout. The huddle did not stop Suffolk as it scored five in a row to seal the set. 

Suffolk's 9-5 edge blossomed into a 16-9 lead. Framingham State made things interesting as it chipped the deficit down to three, 20-17. See-saw action ensued, which allowed the blue-and-gold to remain in front and seal the sweep on a Jessica Weber kill.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • McKenna Keowen registered nine kills and 11 digs, two aces and one assist. 
  • Weber finished with eight kills on a .471 attack percentage and three digs. 
  • Grace Cervenka logged eight kills and two blocks.  
  • Shore supplied six kills and two blocks. 
  • Jayla Martinez recorded 24 handouts, three digs, one ace and one kill. 
  • Aislinn Lanigan tallied 10 assists, four digs and three aces.

  • Suffolk defeated Framingham State for the first time since 2017.

The Rams travel to Danbury, Connecticut Saturday, Sept. 30 for a tri-match at WestConn featuring Vermont State Castleton. Suffolk will face the Spartans at 1 p.m., before facing the Wolves at 3 p.m.
