#4 Women’s Tennis Secures Spot in GNAC Semis, Downs #5 UJC, 5-1

NORTH READING, Mass. – The fourth-seeded Suffolk women's tennis team punched its ticket to the GNAC semifinals Wednesday night with a 5-1 victory over No. 5 St. Joseph (Conn.) at North Reading High School.

HOW IT HAPPENDED
Suffolk took a 2-1 match lead after doubles action as the Rams secured wins on courts two and three to open action, but dropped a super tiebreaker in the top spot. 

Delaney Dunlap and Keely Hardy put the blue-and-gold on the board thanks to an 8-1 win over Ashley Savino and Catherine Baum in the second slot. Ahilya Malhoutra and Danlyn Medou teamed up for an 8-3 victory at No. 3 over Dominique Carnot and Emily McAllister, but Isabel Rathlev and Elena Cisneros Garcia could not hold off Lucy Roberge and Leah Nguyen on the first court, falling 9-8(7-3).

Dunlap pushed Suffolk's advantage to 3-1 thanks to a 6-1, 6-0 triumph on the top court over Roberge. From there, Malhoutra took down Baum, 6-0, 6-3, in the fourth position and Medou sealed the victory with a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Carnot on court five. 

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk advances to the semifinals for the fifth consecutive campaign and seventh time overall.
  • The Rams remain undefeated versus the Blue Jays since 2007 with their 12 consecutive win over USJ.
