SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Over the weekend, the Suffolk women's golf team took the course at The Orchards Golf Club for the 41st Mt. Holyoke Invitational and two head-to-head matches with Westfield State. The Rams finished 14th at the invite and took down the Owls on Saturday and Sunday by scores of 399-457 and 370-425, respectively.
The two-day annual invitational featured 18 squads from the Tri-State and New England area. Williams earned the team title of the event with a squad score card of 603. All but one Ephs' golfer finished in the top 10 of the event paced the invitational's individual winner, Cordelia Chan, who shot a 145.
Suffolk combined for a 769 good for 14th place. Iselle Ventura led the way with a 187. The freshman rallied after a 100 on the first day of the green and shot an 87 on the second to pace the Rams.
One stroke behind Ventura was Chapman who carded a 96 followed by a 92 to finish 70th overall. Aine Dillon's 196 was good for 75th place as the sophomore put together a 106 and 90.
Nicole Antonucci claimed 78th with a 199 and McKenzie McGrath rounded out the Rams' golfers at the invite with a 206.
In Saturday's head-to-head match, Suffolk claimed the win thanks to Chapman's 96-stroke day. The freshman led the Rams to a 399-457 victory.
Sunday it was Ventura's clubs that anchored the blue-and-gold to yet another win, the team's third head-to-head match and victory of the season. Ventura's 87 paced Suffolk to a 370-425 decision.
The Rams will take a break from competition this weekend as they set their sights on their first championship course in program history. Suffolk will vie for the Empire8 crown October 14-15 at the Ballston Spa Country Club in Saratoga, New York.
