BOSTON – Suffolk men's cross country's senior captain Tim Barry will take his talents to Newville, Pennsylvania this Saturday, Nov. 18 for the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships. He will don the Rams' blue-and-gold on the 8k course at Big Spring High School at 11 a.m. 

Approximately 40 teams will converge in the Granite State with the men's 8k race set for an 11 a.m. start with the women's 6k following an hour later with a trip to the 2023 NCAA Division III Championships on the line.

NATIONAL NOTES

  • A total of 32 men's cross country teams – the top seven-person team automatically qualified from each of the 10 regions and 22 additional teams were selected at-large -- will partake in the 2021 edition of the NCAA DIII Championships
  • Along with the 32 seven-person rosters, 70 individuals, the first seven student-athletes from each region who are not a part of qualifying team, qualified for the final DIII cross country meet of the year 
  • The men's 8,000-kilometer run will open the day at 11 a.m.

Dickinson College is serving as the hosts for the 2023 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships at Big Spring High School in Newville, Pennsylvania.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING

  • Tim Barry became the second Suffolk male runner to earn his place on the national stage this season, first since Matyas Csiki-Fejer, who made a pair of appearances in 2019 and 2021, respectively.
  • The Westborough, Massachusetts, product is the third-ever Ram to make an appearance at NCAAs joining Csiki-Fejer and Emily Manfra, who ran in back-to-back seasons in 2018 and 2019, respectively. 
  • There has been one USTFCCCA All-American in Suffolk's history, Csiki-Fejer, who picked up the distinction in 2021 behind a 35th-place performance.

CCC COMPETITORS AT NCAAs

  • Tim Barry is one of two CCC student-athletes to earn a spot at NCAAs this year as he is joined by Roger Williams' Nathan Tassey.  
  • The pair are the seventh and eighth CCCC runners to qualify for NCAA in the last nine years, first since Suffolk's own Matyas Csiki-Fejer made the 2021 field. 
  • Csiki-Fejer own's the best performance at NCAAs by a CCC student-athlete with a time of 24:20.0, good for 35th place and All-America honors, the first conference male runner to achieve that feat.

  • Tim Barry clocked a personal-best 25:05.5 8-kilometer run at NCAA Division III East Regionals a week ago, Nov. 11, 2023. 

ALL-AMERICA UP FOR GRABS
Student-athletes who finish in the top-40 of their respective races this weekend at the 2022 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships in Newville, Pennsylvania will earn the distinction of All-America status from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).  

Suffolk has only had one cross country All-American, male or female, Matyas Csiki-Fejer in 2021. 

ALL-REGION RECOGNITION
For the first time in Suffolk's men's and women's cross country's histories, both programs saw multiple student-athletes pick up All-East Region from the U.S. Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Thanks to their top-35 performances at the 2023 NCAA Division III East Regionals last Saturday, Nov. 11 Tim Barry and Thomas Novy, as well as Ellie Davis and Amy Pattelena all received the regional recognition.

REGIONALS RECAP
Tim Barry clocked a personal-best 25:05.8 at NCAA DIII East Regionals last Saturday, Nov. 11 at Hopkinton Fair Grounds in Hopkinton, New Hampshire, to pace Suffolk to its best team performance at regionals in program-history with an eighth-place showing.  

Individually, Barry locked up 13th in the 229-runner field en route to a pair of all-region distinctions, All-East Region vis USTFCCCA and All-New England from the DIII New England Association.

ALL-CONFERENCE
Four members of the Suffolk men's cross country team raced to All-CCC honors at the 2023 Commonwealth Coast Conference Championships on the campus of Gordon College Saturday, Oct. 28. Tim BarryHayden GreenThomas Novy and Luke Sikora all propelled the Rams to their third consecutive runner-up finish at the conference meet.
