Volleyball Falls to Baldwin Wallace in Straight Sets

SANDUSKY, Ohio – Suffolk volleyball opened its second day of play at the Great Lakes Cross Over with a 3-0 loss to Baldwin Wallace Saturday morning at the Cedar Point Sports Complex. The defeat came via set scores 25-14, 25-20 and 25-20.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Baldwin Wallace turned an 8-3 edge to a 14-5 lead in the first frame. Things evened out after Scott Blanchard used a timeout, however, the hole Suffolk found itself in early on own proved to be the difference.  

Things stayed close in the second stanza with Suffolk in front 20-19. The Yellow Jackets stung six unanswered points together to take the set.  

The Rams held onto a 12-8 advantage in the third set. Baldwin Wallace battled back behind an 8-1 run to go up 16-13. After back-and-forth action, Suffolk leveled the playing field at 20-all that forced the Yellow Jackets into a timeout. The huddle proved to work as they scored the final five points to clinch the set and match.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Jasmine James carried the Rams' 15-kill offense with four kills of her own. 
  • Aislinn Lanigan and Jayla Martinez set up the attack with six assists and five assists, respectively. 
  • Martinez was a threat at the service line with five aces. 
  • McKenna Keowen paced the defense with 12 digs to go along with a pair of kills, one ace and one assist. 

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk met Baldwin Wallace for the first time.

Suffolk conclude play at the Great Lakes Cross Over this afternoon when it faces the tournament host Heidelberg at 12 p.m.
