LEXINGTON, Ky. – For the first time since 2021 and fourth time in program history, Suffolk volleyball was recognized for its work inside the classroom as the Rams earned U.S. Marine Corps (USMC)/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2022-23 season, the national organization announced.

USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award distinction is handed out to programs that achieve a yearlong grade point average of a 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or a 4.1 on a 5.0 scale.

Suffolk received the award, which was created and has been handed out since 1992-93, for the fourth time thanks to the team's 3.466 year-long GPA. All four of the Rams USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award accolades have come under the leadership of head coach Scott Blanchard.

The 1,333 pool of recipients in 2022-23, a record number of program honored since the award was initiated 31 seasons ago, includes programs from each of the NCAA Divisions as well as the NAIA, two-year colleges, NCCAA, USCAA, collegiate men and beach, and high school. The Rams were among 229 NCAA Division III teams to excel academically including Commonwealth Coast Conference foes Curry, Endicott, Gordon and Salve Regina.
