Volleyball Cruises Past Curry in Straight Sets

MILTON, Mass. – The Suffolk women's volleyball team wrapped up a four-day hectic stretch with its third 3-0 victory in as many games as the Rams topped Curry Friday night at Katz Gymnasium. The Commonwealth Coast Conference triumph came via set scores 25-14, 28-26 and 25-14.

SET ONE RECAP (25-14, SUFFOLK)

  • A 6-1 early edge turned into a 12-4 lead at the midway point for Suffolk.
  • The Colonels clawed back with a 6-1 stretch to pull within three, 13-10. 
  • After back-and-forth action, the Rams remained in front, 18-13. 
  • From there, the blue-and-gold went on a 7-1 run to close out the first frame.

SET TWO RECAP (28-26, SUFFOLK)

  • Things evened out in the second stanza as the score leveled 13 times. 
  • The last equal playing field came at 26-all. 
  • Back-to-back attack errors by the Colonels gave Suffolk the marathon set, 28-26.  

SET THREE REACP (25-14, SUFFOLK)

  • Suffolk scored the first nine points of the stanza. 
  • After Curry chipped in a pair of points, the Rams rattled off a 6-1 stretch to make things lopsided, 15-3. 
  • The Colonels made a late rush and trimmed the distance down to 10, 24-14. 
  • McKenna Keowen sealed the sweep on the next serve with her 13th kill of the night. 

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Keowen's 13 kills powered Suffolk's 45-kill offense that received 10 kills from Alina Nowakowski on a .562 hitting clip. 
  • Jasmine James pitched in seven kills and Grace Cervenka added six kills. 
  • Harmony Johnson set up the offense with 31 assists to go along with five digs and two aces. 
  • Morgan Kelsey and Tatum Kalt held down the defense with 16 digs apiece. The former had two aces and two assists on her stat line, while the latter also pitched in five aces, one kill and one handout. 

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk improved to 7-3 versus Curry since 2010. 
  • Suffolk has strung together three wins in a row against the Colonels, all sweeps. 
  • At Curry, the blue-and-gold is 3-1 all-time. 
  • Suffolk moved to 3-0 against Curry under Scott Blanchard's guidance. 
  • Every victory over the Colonels in the Blanchard era has come in sweeping fashion.
