BOSTON – Suffolk volleyball heads up to New Paltz, New York, this weekend for the Hawks Invitational. The Rams will open the weekend, Friday, Oct. 7 versus Misericordia, with New Paltz and Manhattanville on Saturday, Oct. 8's schedule at 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., respectively.

Suffolk volleyball saw its five-match win streak come to an end Tuesday night as the Rams fell to Wentworth in Commonwealth Coast Conference play, 3-0, at Tansey Gymnasium. The loss came via set scores 26-24, 25-16 and 25-15.

RAMS RUNDOWN
Suffolk is 13-6 on the season following its 3-0 loss to Wentworth Tuesday. 

The Rams own a 11.36 kills per set attack paced by Jess Weber (3.77 kps) and McKenna Keowen (3.26 kps), who each average over 3.00 kps. Harmony Johnson handles the Suffolk's setter's role with 7.18 aps. Jayla Martinez(4.63 aps) steps in as Suffolk's setter from time-to-time. The trio of Morgan Kelsey (1.16 aps), Johnson (0.80 aps) and Martinez (0.70) are threats from the service line.  

Kenzley Bell's 4.52 dps powers the defense that receives over 2.00 dps from both Tatum Kalt (2.18 dps) and Kelsey (2.02). Alina Nowakowski and Grace Cervenka led the way at the net with 0.58 bps and 0.55 bps, respectively.  

COUGARS CATCHUP
Misericordia slipped at Stevens Wednesday in five sets to carry a 13-5 ledge into the weekend it opens against New Paltz Friday, Oct. 7 at 1:30 p.m. before meeting Suffolk three hours later.  

Fiona Pyfer's 3.15 kps powers the Cougars 11.53 kps attack that is primarily set up by Jenna Schuda's 7.88 assists per set. Faith Merritt is a two-way player as she sits second on the squad in kills (2.37) and digs (2.37) per set. 

Jessica Cleveland's 3.29 dps leads the defense that receives 0.62 bps from Sophie Winter and 0.59 bps by Shelby Hastings.

Hawks Invitational host New Paltz brings an 11-2 record into the weekend that it begins on Friday, Oct. 7 versus Misericordia and Drew before battling Suffolk Saturday, Oct. 8 at 11:00 a.m.  

Mackenzie Williams' 3.28 kps powers the offense that receives 2.66 kps from Victoria Konicki and is set up by Cate DiGiacomo (9.38 aps). Kayleigh Emanuelson adds a spark from the service line with 0.77 aces per set. 

Defensively, Mia Waddel's 4.20 dps pace the pack. Melanie Podstupka provides 2.93 dps and Williams chips in 2.00 dps. Nicole Kleinegger (0.82 bps) and Letisha Perez (0.81 bps) are threats at the net.

  • Saturday's showdown will be the first between Suffolk and New Paltz.

Manhattanville holds an 11-3 mark and begins its weekend in New Paltz, New York, with its clash against Suffolk on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 1:30 p.m. 

Alejandra Figueroa is a force on the attack with 3.63 kps. Ayla Ruiz adds 3.00 kps. Vianca Vital contributes to on both sides of the net as she sets up the offense with 9.83 aps and provides 3.48 dps. Grace Ballagas chips in 4.53 dps to the defensive unit. 
INSIDE THE SERIES

  • Suffolk and Manhattanville will tangle for the second time in program history. 
  • The first and only battle between the Rams and Valiants came Aug. 31, 2019, at the Babson Invitational.
  • Manhattanville won the only meeting in straight sets.

RECORD WATCH
Suffolk's seniors have a chance to make the Rams' record books this season. 

Harmony Johnson looks to be the program's all-time leader in assists and is just 119 handouts away from tying the mark held by Julia Sullivan (1821 assist), who wore the blue-and-gold from 2007-10. 

Kenzley Bell, meanwhile, aims to join the 1,000-dig club and is 39 digs away from being the third Suffolk student-athlete to do so, first since Dakhensey Marcellus accomplished the feat in 2010.
