Wentworth Stops Volleyball in Straight Sets

BOSTON – Suffolk volleyball saw its five-match win streak come to an end Tuesday night as the Rams fell to Wentworth in Commonwealth Coast Conference play, 3-0, at Tansey Gymnasium. The loss came via set scores 26-24, 25-16 and 25-15.

SET ONE RECAP (26-24, WENTWORTH)

  • Things remained close early on with WIT out in front by one, 8-7. 
  • The Leopards leaped ahead from there, 18-11. 
  • The Rams rallied behind a 7-1 run to cut the deficit back to one, 19-18. 
  • Wentworth rattled off three straight points before Suffolk responded with four points in a row of its own to level the playing field at 22-all. 
  • Out of a WIT timeout, back-to-back attack errors by the host gave the blue-and-gold the advantage, 24-22. 
  • The Leopards managed to figure things out and scored four consecutive points to flip the script and take the frame.   

SET TWO RECAP (25-16, WENTWORTH)

  • Suffolk worked its way out of a 9-3 hole and pulled within one, 12-11, thanks to an 8-3 stretch. 
  • Wentworth outscored the Rams, 8-2, to make things lopsided, 21-12. 
  • The blue-and-gold aimed to battled back and put together a 4-1 spurt to come within striking distance, 21-15. 
  • The Leopards scored the final four points to lock up the set.  

SET THREE RECAP (25-15, WENTWORTH)

  • Suffolk trailed at the midway point, 15-10. 
  • Wentworth put together six straight points to force the Rams into a timeout, 21-10. 
  • Points were traded the rest of the way and the Leopards' early cushion provided to be the difference.
