Volleyball Sees Pair Pick Up CCC Weekly Awards

CCC RELEASE

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Following a 4-0 week, Suffolk volleyball had two athletes receive recognition from the Commonwealth Coast Conference as Kenzley Bell was named CCC Libero of the Week and Grace Cervenka grabbed CCC Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

Bell, a senior captain from Lake Park, Georgia, had a brilliant defensive week for Suffolk. She compiled four straight double-digit dig performances resulting in 5.23 digs per set for the four-match stretch. She opened with an 18-dig effort in a straight set win over Dean and followed that with a 19-dig display in a 3-1 CCC victory over Western New England. In the Dig Pink tri-match over the weekend, she had 16 digs and 15 pick-ups in sweeps over Union and Fitchburg State. In addition to her defense, Bill added 16 assists in the seven-day span.

Cervenka contributed 2.36 kills and 0.73 blocks per set for 3.1 points per set. She was an especially efficient attacker, hitting .488 for the week. In the 3-0 triumph over the Bulldogs, she notched eight kills on a .429 hitting clip with three blocks, one ace and one dig. Two days later versus the Golden Bears, she contributed six kills, five digs, four blocks, one ace and one handout. Her top showing came versus the Dutchwomen when she notched 10 kills on 13 errorless attacks for a career-bets .769 swinging clip to go along with one block. The Sugar Land, Texas native wrapped up with the week with a pair of kills, one dig and one ace in a sweep of the Falcons.

With the two new weekly awards, Suffolk now has five weekly honors on its shelf this season. Cervenka is responsible for two as she has been tabbed the best rookie over a seven-day stretch twice. Jess Weber has also took home the league's rookie of the week title this year, earning the feat Sept. 6. That same week McKenna Keowen was named the conference's best player of the week. Kenzley Bell earned her first weekly award of the season and is the first Ram to be recognized the best libero of the week since she garnered the award Oct. 18, 2021.

Suffolk is back in action tomorrow, Tuesday, Oct. 4 at Wentworth at 7 p.m.
