Blanchard Elevated to Full Time as Men’s Tennis, Volleyball Head Coach

BOSTON – Suffolk University Director of Athletics Cary McConnell has promoted Scott Blanchard to full-time status after guiding the Rams' men's tennis team on an interim basis a year ago on top of his responsibilities as the volleyball's squad head coach.

"Scott has been an integral part of this department's success and I could not be more excited to reward his hard work with this new full-time role," McConnell said. "His dedication to Suffolk University, the athletic department and especially the student-athletes, not just on his teams, but collectively, is being recognized with this promotion."

"I am honored to have this opportunity as a full-time coach at Suffolk," Blanchard said. "I have been very fortunate to work with some amazing young men and women in my short time here, all of whom have accomplished so much and set the stage for their respective programs to achieve new heights in the future."

Blanchard joined the University's Athletic Department in 2018 when he started to shape the Rams' volleyball program into the success it is today, a yearly conference postseason contender, while last spring, he took over the reins of the men's tennis program.

The mastermind behind Suffolk volleyball's winningest team, the 2019 squad that went 20-12, has guided the blue-and-gold to team and individual triumphs throughout his five years, four full seasons within Ram Nation.

Accolades under Blanchard have not been limited to the athletic nature though, they have trickled into the classroom as well, which embodies the true mission of Suffolk Athletics; Rams learn to compete effectively and with integrity in any setting. This testament was proven in the spring of 2022 when four men's tennis players garnered Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar Athlete status, the most honorees in a single season for the Rams, with the team picking up ITA All-Academic Team for the third time in the program's history. His volleyball squads, meanwhile, picked up back-to-back U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) / American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Awards during Blanchard's tenure.

Blanchard is already hard at work in his conjoined role with volleyball student-athletes expected to arrive back in Boston as early as next week for the 2022 preseason.
