Keowen Threepeats as CCC Rookie of the Week

CCC RELEASE

BIDDEFORD, Maine – McKenna Keowen of the Suffolk volleyball team garnered her third straight and fifth overall Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Rookie of the Week title, the league office announced Monday afternoon. The recognition comes on the heels of a 2-1 week for the Rams where the freshman averaged 4.18 kills and 3.55 digs per set.

The San Ramon, California, native opened the week with a 14-kill, 15-dig effort in a three-set sweep of Suffolk's Boston rival Emmanuel. The outside hitter put together a near double-double two days later with a 15-kill, nine-dig output in a straight set conference victory over Curry. She concluded the week and the regular-season with her ninth double-double of the year of 17 kills and 15 digs in a five-set loss at Salve Regina. She served four aces in the setback to the Seahawks as well.

Keowen's third straight rookie of the week award brings her weekly award haul total this season to six. She has been named the CCC's best rookie over a seven-day stretch five times, a new Rams' record upstaging Harmony Johnson's four Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) honors from 2019, and took home the player of the week title Sept. 21. Suffolk now has received eight CCC weekly awards with Kenzley Bell and Morgan Kelsey joining Keowen. Both Bell and Kelsey garnered libero of the week Oct. 18 and Sept. 20, respectively.

With the regular-season wrapped up, Keowen and Suffolk will concentrate on the CCC post-season, which the Rams enter as the seventh seed. The quarterfinals seed Suffolk to second-seed Roger Williams Tuesday, Nov. 2 for a 7 p.m. first serve.
