Caldwell CCC Field Rookie, 4x100 Relay Team of the Week

BEVERLY, Mass. – Suffolk women's track & field took home weekly recognition from the Commonwealth Coast Conference as Sharaden Caldwell was named CCC Field Rookie of the Weekly, while the Rams foursome of JJ ContehHilma OrtegaEmily Concepcion and Amanda Walden garnered Relay Team of the Week distinction. 

Caldwell won the discus (32.41m) and the hammer (35.13m) at the Regis Spring Classic. Her personal-best hammer toss helped Suffolk seal up first in the team race with 128 with the Rams rookie responsible for 20 of those points. At the Penmen Relays on Saturday, she finished fourth and set a school record in the discuss with a 33.35-meter heave. The Heber City, Utah native also threw the hammer and finished 13th with a 32.34-meter showing.  

Suffolk's 4x100 Relay squad made up of Conteh, Ortega, Concepcion and Walden won the 4x100 at the Regis Spring Classic with a time of 50.21. That quartet bettered that time to 49.74, a school record, at Penmen Relays, finishing fourth overall and first among NCAA Division III teams.  

The awards are Suffolk's first of the 2024 season. It is the second time in program history that Suffolk's 4x100 Relay team was named the CCC's top relay team over a seven-day stretch, first time since March 27, 2023. Overall, a Rams relay team has been award the honor three times. The last was the 4x400 Relay team May 1, 2023.Caldwell is the first Suffolk student to capture CCC Field Rookie of the Week since Caitlyn Filloramo took home the feat May 2, 2022.  

Caldwell and the relay Rams are set to return to action this weekend April 19-20 at MIT's Sean Collier Invitational.
