Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Competes at Penmen Relays

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Suffolk women's outdoor track & field had a standout day at the Penmen Relay as two Rams qualified for regionals, a pair of personal records and four personal best were rewritten at Penmen Stadium.  

REGIONAL RAMS

  • Amanda Walden secured her spot at NCAA Division III New Englands in the 200 with a time of 26.04. 
  • Catherine Madden became the first member of Suffolk women's outdoor track & field to punch her ticket to New Englands in the 100 hurdles with a 16.17.  

RAMS RECORDS

  • Madden achieved a personal and Rams record in the 100 hurdles of 16.17. 
  • Sharaden Caldwell put together a program and personal-best in the discus with a 33.35-meter heave. 
  • Catherine Brown leapt to personal and program-best in the high jump as she cleared 1.53 meters. 
  • Mallory Taylor raced to a personal record in the 800 of 2:34.91. 
  • The foursome of JJ ContehHilma OrtegaEmily Concepcion and Amanda Walden combined for a program-record of 49.74 in the 4x100 Relay.  

RAMS RUNNERS

  • Conteh had the highest finish of any Ram runner at the event as the freshman finished fourth in the 100 behind a 12.91. Walden had a top-10 finish in the event as well as the senior secured seventh with a time of 13.03. Leticia Lantero (13.73), Kaylie Groom (13.81) and Chelsea Fallon (14.21) competed in the event as well. 
  • In the 200, Walden turned in her second top-10 finish in sixth as she made a half lap in 26.04. Alyssa Rodriguez ran the event in 27.65 and Fallon finished in 30.30. 
  • In the 400, Concepcion continue her sub-1:00.0 pace. She put together a time of 59.07 to place fifth. Rodriguez was also in the top-10 at ninth with a time of 1:02.26 and Kaylie Groom took 14th at 1:04.49. 
  • Taylor turned in a 10th-place performance in the 800 as she ran two laps in 2:34.91. Shannon Groom was five seconds behind the Rams' rook in 2:39.17 to claim 15th. 
  • Bailey Ford represented the Rams in the mile. The freshman finished in 5:38.79 to finish 12th. 
  • Madden hurdled to seventh in the 100 hurdles with a time of 16.17. Ortega, meanwhile, placed 13th with a 17.81 showing.  

RAMS RELAYS

  • Suffolk was represented in the 4x100 by the foursome of Conteh, Ortega, Concepcion and Walden. That group compiled a time of 49.74 to finish fourth in the group. The blue-and-gold relay team was the best NCAA Division III team in the event Saturday.  

YOU'RE NEW HERE

  • Jaenelle Bryant competed in the 400 hurdles for the first time in her career. She finished the event in 1:24.23 to finish 11th.  

JUMPERS JIST

  • Brown cleared 1.53 meters in the high jump to take fifth. Evelyn Lansing was featured in the event as well and finished ninth with a 1.43 meter showing. 
  • Devyn Battistoni and Kara Sickle took first and second in the pole vault, respectively. The duo each cleared 3.10 meters. Molly Hennegan (2.94) was just outside the top three in fourth, while Sasha Helfgott-Waters (2.80) finished sixth. 
  • Lantero leapt to 13th in the long jump with a 4.56-meter performance. 
  • Helfgott-Waters finished ninth in the triple jump at 9.48.  

THROWERS THOUGHTS

  • Caldwell had a standout showing in the discus with a 33.35-meter heave to collect fourth. Divinety Johnson was four spots behind her with a 31.60-meter toss. 
  • Caldwell also competed in the hammer and finished 13th with 32.34-meter showing.
  • Johnson participated in the shot put as well and placed 16th with a 9.25-meter performance.
  • Olivia Nicholson (26.79) and Emma Withers (23.37) represented the Rams in the javelin.

 Suffolk is set to compete at MIT's Sean Collier Invitational next weekend, April 19-20.
