Outdoor Track & Field Splits its Weekend at Two Meets

BOSTON – Suffolk men's and women's outdoor track & field has two events on its weekend docket – the Tufts Snowflake Classic and the UMass Lowell Invitational. Both meets are scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m.

TUFTS SNOWFLAKE CLASSIC
THE FIELD 
Overall, 23 teams will compete in Somerville Saturday. Joining Suffolk at the event at Tufts will be Commonwealth Coast Conference foes Endicott, Gordon, UNE and Wentworth, as well as Babson, Brandeis, Clark, Colby Sawyer, Connecticut College, Fitchburg State, Hampshire, Lasell, Lesley, Mt. Holyoke, RCC, Regis, Smith, Trinity, UMass Boston, Vermont Tech, Wesleyan, host Tufts and NCAA Division I member Boston College.  

SUFFOLK TO SHINE IN SOMERVILLE

  • Gracie O'Connell will be looking to qualify for NCAA Division III New England Championships in the hammer. 
  • Freshman Sharaden Caldwell will compete in the hammer for the first time in her collegiate career and has potential to qualify by the end of the outdoor season. 
  • In discus, freshmen Divinety JohnsonMaddie Moore, Caldwell will make their collegiate debuts in their primary event. 
  • Hurdlers Catherine Madden and Hilma Ortega will attempt to break the program 100m hurdle record. 
  • The women's pole vault record will be in jeopardy as well. 
  • Luke Sikora will open his outdoor season in the 800 and will look to punch his ticket for the DIII New England Championships. 
  • Gavin Reid and Michael Frodelius will be long jumping and looking to build upon a strong indoor season.  

UMASS LOWELL LOOOKOUT
THE FIELD
A mixture of teams, mostly NCAA Division I members, with a few NCAA DIII counterparts making the trip to Lowell for the UMass Lowell Invitational. Joining Suffolk will be Stonehill, Harvard, Hartford, Vermont, Bowdoin, New Hampshire, Merrimack and the host Riverhawks.

SUFFOLK'S SCHEDULE
The Rams divide their squad again next weekend, April 4-6, as Suffolk sends student-athletes to Williamsburg, Virginia for the Colonial Relays and Fitchburg, Massachusetts for the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invite.
