Suffolk Ice Breaker Starts New Year for Women’s Indoor Track & Field

BOSTON – Suffolk women's indoor track & field got its second semester underway at the second annual Suffolk Ice Breaker Invitational Saturday at the Track at New Balance. 

RAMS RUNNERS

  • Amanda Walden paced Suffolk's speedsters in the 60 with a fourth-place performance behind of 8.07. JJ Conteh claimed 12th (8.20) and Sofia Barboza-Lind finished 30th (8.57) in the 48-runner field. 
  • Walden logged a top-10 performance in the 200 as well thanks to her NCAA Division III New England qualifying time of 26.10. 
  • Emily Concepcion clocked a 59.69 in the 400 to finish seventh in the 39-runner field that featured Samantha Dauria (1:05.71) and Jocelyn Triscik (1:07.56).
  • Amy Pattelena and Sydney Fogg finished in the top 10 in the 800. The former finished the two laps in 2:23.98, good for seventh, with the latter three spots behind with a time of 2:25.73.

POLE VAULTER POSITIONS

  • Devyn Battistoni was just outside the top-10 as the freshman shared 11th after clearing 3.20 meters. 

THROWS THOUGHTS

RAMS RECORDS

  • Conteh (27.42) and Catherine Madden (30.13) both logged personal bests in the 200.
  • Concepcion clocked a sub-minute 400 for the second straight meet. She is the only Ram in program history to run a lap in under a minute in program history. 
  • Dauria registered a career-high in the 400 (1:05.71). 
  • Fogg finished the 800 with a personal-best time of 2:25.73. 
  • Madden notched a personal-record 10.06 in the 60 hurdles.
  • Brown tied a career-high in the high jump (1.50), while Lansing set a personal best of 1.45. 
  • Helfgott-Waters cleared a personal-record 3.05 meters in the pole vault. 

YOU'RE NEW YEAR

  • Junior Chelsea Fallon, who competes on Suffolk's women's soccer team, made her track & field debut in the 200. 
  • Freshman Jaenelle Bryant raced the 800 for the for first time in her collegiate career.  

WHAT'S NEXT?
Suffolk will compete at a different facility for the first time in 2023-24 next Saturday, Jan. 20 when it visits Tufts for the Branwen Smith-King Invitational.
