Indoor Track & Field to Host Suffolk Ice Breaker Invitational

BOSTON – Suffolk indoor track & field returns to the Track at New Balance Saturday, Jan. 13 for the second annual Suffolk Ice Breaker Invitational. Field events are scheduled to start at 9 a.m. with action on the track scheduled for 10 a.m.

THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE THE TRACK
All three of Suffolk's meets this season have taken place at the Track at New Balance. The Rams are set to compete at the facility six times this year. 

THE FIELD
The second Suffolk Ice Breaker Invitational is the largest event that the Rams have hosted to date with over 1,400 athletes registered to compete. The field features teams from every NCAA Division, as well as post collegiate athletes from across the countries.  

LAST TIME OUT [ MEN ] 
Suffolk men's indoor track & field wrapped up first semester action at the Beacons Invitational Saturday at the Track at New Balance.

LAST TIME OUT [ WOMEN ] 
Suffolk women's indoor track & field put an exclamation point on the 2023 portion of its schedule as four Rams records were rewritten Saturday, Dec. 10 at the Track at New Balances.

SUFFOLK STANDOUTS [ MEN ]

  • Gavin Reid will make his season debut in the long jump. 
  • Carter Nevulis, who is ranked sixth in the East Region in the 60 hurdles, will try to crack into the top five and break his school record in the process. 
  • Turner Mitchell will attempt to PR in the 60 for the third straight weekend. 
  • Jacob Dubin and Cam Fredette will both be chasing personal records in the 3K. 
  • Joshua Catino broke his school record in the pole vault December and looks to improve upon it Saturday. 

RAMS TO RECOGNIZE [ WOMEN ]

  • Amanda Walden is ranked 24th in Division III in the 200 and will be racing that event along with the 60. 
  • Emily Concepcion sits fifth and ninth in the region in the 400 and 200, respectively, and is expected to run both Saturday. 
  • Sydney Fogg and Amy Pattelena are ranked fourth and third in the East Region respectively, in the mile. The senior and sophomore will run the 800 Saturday and aim to qualify for New Englands. 
  • Gracie O'Connell is inching closer and closer to qualifying for DIII New Englands and is looking to pick up right where she left off at the Beacons Invitational before break where she logged a huge personal record. 
  • Suffolk's pole vaulters have dominated the DIII East Region this season with four Rams currently in the top-8 in the region; Devyn Battistoni sits second Kara Sickle and Molly Hennegan share fifth and Sasha Helfgott-Waters owns eighth. 
  • High jumper Catherine Brown, who is currently tied for the school record in the event after clearing 1.51 meters, will once again be looking to break the mark this weekend.  

SUFFOLK'S SCHEDULE
The Rams will head across town to Tufts next Saturday, Jan. 20 for the Branwen Smith-King Invitational.
