Women’s Indoor Track & Field Program Records Fall at Beacons Invitational 

BOSTON – Suffolk women's indoor track & field put an exclamation point on the 2023 portion of its schedule as four Rams records were rewritten Saturday, Dec. 10 at the Track at New Balances. 

RAMS RECORDS

  • Amanda Walden adjusted her already owned record in the 200 with a time of 25.81. 
  • Emily Concepcion became the first Ram in program history to run a sub-minute 400. The junior completed her lap around the track in 59.43. 
  • Devyn Battistoni pole vault of 3.35 put her atop Suffolk's all-time list. 
  • Sasha Helfgott-Waters jumped her way to the program-best triple jump of 9.62.  

REGIONAL RAMS

  • In her indoor debut this season, Amy Pattelena secured her spot at NCAA Division III New Englands in the mile with a time of 5:17.44.
  • Walden (60, 200) and Concepcion (400) already sealed their spots at New Englands, but once again ran qualifying times in their respective events.  

RAMS RUNNERS

  • Half a dozen Rams were featured in the 31-runner 60-meter dash field. Walden paced the blue-and-gold pack with an 8.01, good for third, with JJ Conteh featured in the top-10 in eighth as well thanks to her time of 8.23. Hilma Ortega (8.42), Catherine Madden (8.86), Isabelle Slocum (8.88) and Alicia Bibi (9.30) sprinted the event as well. 
  • The 200 was Suffolk heavy as well with 10 Rams in the 36-runner field. Once again, Walden led Suffolk's sprinters with a 25.81 to take second. Concepion's time of 27.01 was good for sixth, while Alyssa Rodriguezclaimed 10th behind a time of 27.76. 
  • All four Rams in the 400 landed finished in the top 6. Concepion's 59.43 put the junior in third with Rodriguez (1:03.07), Kaylie Groom (1:03.60) and Samantha Dauria (1:06.18) took fourth through sixth.
  • Four of the five Suffolk student-athletes in the mile took spots in the top seven out of 18 runners. Pattelena led the charge in second with a 5:17.44 with Sydney Fogg's 5:20.00 good for third. Sarah Roberts (5:37.63) and Bailey Ford (5:48.77) were one after another in sixth and seventh, respectively. 
  • Ortega (10.10), Catherine Madden (10.32) and Slocum (10.42) secured spots six, seven and nine in the 60 hurdles. 
  • Bryant raced to second in the 500 with a time of 1:35.20. 

RAMS RELAYS

  • Suffolk was represented by one relay team in the 4x400. Walden, Groom, Rodriguez and Pattelena won the event after combing for a 4:19.97. 

JUMPERS JIST

  • Catherine Brown cleared 1.45 meters in the high jump to take third out of the 11 opponents.
  • Evelyn Lansing leapt 4.56 meters to take sixth in the 17-jumper long jump.
  • Helfgott-Waters' three jumps were good for 9.62, while Ainsley Dion logged a 8.47 triple jump.

PERSONAL BESTS

  • Slocum dashed to a personal-best 8.88 in the 60. 
  • Walden ran a career-high 25.81 200. 
  • Concepcion clocked a personal-best 59.42 in the 400. 
  • Pattelena (5:17.44), Fogg (5:20.00), Roberts (5:37.63) and April Banuelos (6:19.48) all produced career highs in the mile. 
  • Pole vaulters Battistoni (3.35), Hennegan (3.05) and Sickle (3.05) all produced personal bests.
  • O'Connell (12.03) and Caldwell (10.65) put together PRs in the weight throw.

YOU'RE NEW HERE

  • Bryant (500, 60 hurdles), Ford (mile) and Helfgott-Waters (pole vault, triple jump) made their collegiate debuts. 
  • Ortega (60), Conteh (200), Dauria (200, 400) and Caldwell (shot put) competed in new events for the first time in their careers. 

WHAT'S NEXT?
Suffolk is idle until Saturday, Jan. 13 when it returns to the Track at New Balance for the Suffolk Ice Breaker Invitational.
