Women’s Indoor Track & Field Receive Multiple Major GNAC Awards

GNAC RELEASE

WINTHROP, Mass. – After capturing the program's first championship with the 2022 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), two members of Suffolk women's indoor track & field were acknowledged with major awards from the league. Amanda Walden grabbed Track Athlete of the Year, while Caitlyn Filloramo garnered Field Athlete of the Year. To top things off, head coach Will Feldman was honored by his peers as GNAC Coach of the Year.

Walden qualified and competed at regionals, the only individual Ram to do so. At GNACs, she was runner-up in the 60 and 200, respectively, and was a part of the GNAC Champion 4x400 relay team. Suffolk is the only team to have a GNAC Track Athlete of the Year honoree in the conference's history as Walden followed in Emily Manfra's '20 footsteps, who was the inaugural GNAC Track Athlete of the Year in 2020.

Filloramo was the GNAC Champion in weight throw with a 12.63-meter toss, and narrowly missed the podium in the shot put with a fourth-place performance behind a 9.72-meter toss. The freshman is the first Ram to pick up a major indoor award from the GNAC in program history.

The pair, Walden and Filloramo, is the first duo to garner major conference in the same season in program history. Overall, Suffolk has seen three Rams pick up major award distinction from the league in the all-time annals.

Feldman was recognized as the GNAC Coach of the Year for indoors on the women's side for the first time in his career. That distinction came after Suffolk dethroned the first-ever league champion Emmanuel with 162 team points, 45 more than the Saints, to grab the program's first women's indoor championship.

In addition to the athletic achievements, senior Skyler Spanbauer represented the Rams on the conference's All-Sportsmanship team, which was established to honor one player from each team in the league for outstanding dedication to sportsmanship and for their portrayal of good sportsmanship, fair play and positive attitude.
