Seven Selected 2021-22 Women’s Indoor Track & Field Captains

BOSTON – Suffolk women's indoor track & field will be under the leadership of seven student-athletes has head coach Will Feldman announced seniors Allison Rodrigues and Skyler Spanbauer, juniors Nicole DiBenedetto and Sarah Lawton and sophomores Jocelyn TriscikAmanda Walden and Lauren Wood will share the captain role.  

"We have an amazing group of captains this year, and they're proving to be the best leaders we've ever head," Feldman said.  

Rodrigues is the only experienced captain as she returns to the post for her third straight season, while the other six enter their first term in the position.  

"They represented every event group, which is a testament of how well rounded of a team we have," Feldman continued. "With the team growing to nearly 50 women this year our captains have been asked to take on more and more responsibility."  

Rodrigues, who is also a member of Suffolk's women's soccer team, has made her name known on a regional scale in the throwers circuit. The North Andover, Massachusetts, product made trips to New Englands as a freshman and sophomore, respectively, and looks to do the same in her senior season. Conference wise, she was the first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) indoor shotput champion back in 2020. 

"Allison is the lone senior of the group and she brings four years of institutional knowledge along with a long list of athletic accomplishments," Feldman said. "She's someone that the team naturally looks to."  

Rodrigues classmate Spanbauer begins earned the captain title for the first time in the indoor season. The Guilderland, New York native has been a steady point provided for the blue-and-gold in long-distance runs throughout her career, while 

DiBenedetto and Lawton were contributors in both sprints, jumps and middle distance back in 2000 and look to build on that success this year. 

Feldman said, "Skyler, Nicole and Sarah bring have seen tremendous individual success throughout their collegiate careers. They bring a tremendous amount of confidence with them, and are a calming force on the team." 

Walden, Wood and Triscik will all make their indoor debuts this season after having successful showings outdoors in 2021.  

"Lauren and Amanda proved to be tremendous athletes and natural leaders for us," Feldman said. "Jocelyn is by far the most vocal of the group. She's the consummate teammate, and is always willing to go the extra mile to help a teammate. Her, like the rest of the captains should being contention to qualify for NCAA Regionals and earn all-conference honors this season."  

With the leadership contingent in place Suffolk has its sights on its 2021-22 debut, which is on the calendar for this Saturday, Dec. 4 at Boston University's Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener.
