Rodrigues Qualifies for New Englands, Women’s Indoor Track & Field Competes at Emmanuel Invitational

BOSTON – Allison Rodrigues highlighted the Suffolk women's indoor track & field 2019-20 season debut at the Emmanuel Invitational Saturday where nine different Rams competed at the Reggie Lewis Track & Field Center.  

Rodrigues, a sophomore from North Andover, Massachusetts, punched her ticket to the NCAA Division III New England Regionals in the shot put. She tossed the shot put 11.24 meters, good for fifth place out of the 42 competitors and the right to compete at New Englands for the second time in her career. She also tried her hand in the weight throw and put together an 18th-place performance with a 9.51-meter throw.  

Savannah Hunter joined Rodrigues in the 42-competior shot put field. The sophomore finished in the middle of the pack in 21st with a 9.06-meter throw. 

Suffolk had a four-runner contingent in the 60-meter dash. Senior captain Mariama Kamara had the best showing, clocking in at 8.47 to claim 18th out of 71 runners. Dakhensey Marcellus (30th – 8.65) was in the group as well, while Nicole DiBenedetto (35th – 8.76) and Cassandra Kuechler (40th – 8.89) each made their debuts in the event. 

The Rams were represented in distance events as well. Olivia Chilcott impressed as the sophomore won the 1000 with a 3:14.36 time. Savannah Goddeeris was also in the nine-runner field and clocked in her first indoor time of 3:28.11, while Sarah Lawton competed in her first indoor event in the 500 (1:25.54).

Skyler Spanbauer donned the blue-and-gold in the 5000. The senior finished the event in 21:51.05.  

Suffolk is back in action next weekend when it divides its roster between two events, the Howlin' Husky Invitational and the RIC Invitational.
