CCC RELEASE

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Suffolk women's tennis saw a pair of upperclassmen garner all-conference accolades from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tuesday morning. Senior Ilda Ascic took home CCC Scholar-Athlete, while Sarah Mezini was named to the All-CCC Singles First-Team.

Ascic, who has captained the Rams for the last three seasons, was selected as the league's CCC Scholar-Athlete, which is given to a student-athlete who is either graduating or has exhausted her eligibility and has excelled both on the court and in the classroom. The Bosnia native has played exclusively on the top two singles courts for the blue-and-gold throughout her career, assembling a 13-18 overall singles record, en route to a pair of second-team singles selections from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference as a freshman and sophomore, respectively.  Academically, the Corporate Finance student-athlete has assembled a 3.775 cumulative grade point average in six semesters and has been award on the regional and conference levels for her work inside the classroom.

Mezini brought her talents to Suffolk for graduate school after beginning her collegiate career at UMass Amherst. When the Lynnfield, Massachusetts, product competed for the Rams she played every match as Suffolk's ace and did not lose. Her perfect 4-0 ledger, two victories of which came against conference counterparts, secured her a spot on the league's first singles team. She is the first player for Suffolk to earn first-team singles recognition since Delaney Dunlap received the recognition from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) in 2017.

Suffolk, who competed in the CCC for the first time in program history, started a new collection of all-conference awards to add to its list of nods from the GNAC. When combined, the Rams have now earned 52 all-league honors – one scholar-athlete, six player of the year, three rookie of the year, 16 first-team singles, eight second-team singles and eight second-team doubles, dating back to 2007.
