Women’s Tennis Slips to Western New England

BELMONT, Mass. – Suffolk women's tennis fell to Western New England, 6-3, in Commonwealth Coast Conference action Monday night at Belmont Hill.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk got on the board first as Sarah Mezini and Kendall Smith defeated Adriana Hasrik and Aliza McLeish, 8-5, on the top doubles court. The Golden Bears flipped the script with victories in the second and third slots, respectively, to take a 2-1 lead into singles play.

Mezini's golden match against Mcleish at No. 1 leveled the playing field at 2-2, however, WNE quickly picked up decisions on courts six, two and three in that order to seal its winning fate.  

The visitors went on to take court four as well before Bianca Prescott downed Michelle McDermett, 6-3, 6-4, for the final 6-3 margin.

6 – Eiren Klesczewski (WNE) defeated Alyssa Blade (Suffolk), 6-3, 6-4 

DOUBLES
1 – Sarah Mezini/Kendall Smith (Suffolk) defeated Adriana Hasrik/Aliza McLeish (WNE), 8-5
2 – Janet Martinelli/Kaylin Gibbons (WNE) defeated Barbara Consales/Giuliana Claus (Suffolk), 8-4
3 – Jen Arling and Eiren Klesczewski (WNE) defeated Dyani Mosquera/Alyssa Blade (Suffolk), 8-5

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk and Western New England renewed a rivalry, meeting for the first time since 2006. 
  • Mezini put together her first golden match in a Suffolk uniform. 
  • Mezini remains unbeaten in both singles and doubles play this season.
