Women’s Tennis Collects First-Ever CCC Win, Conquers Curry, 6-3

BELMONT, Mass. – The Suffolk women's tennis team picked up the program's first Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) victory as the Rams downed Curry, 6-3, Saturday morning at Belmont Hill.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk took a 2-1 lead out of doubles play after producing golden matches on courts two and three, respectively. Giuliana Claus and Bianca Prescott teamed up to defeated Samantha Ferrera and Cayla Oronski in the second slot, while Alyssa Blade and Dyani Mosquera partnered for the victory over Grace Coopee and Lily Turner-Burrell as the Rams' third team.  

The Colonels leveled the playing field when the first singles court finished playing. Alexandra Borkov bested Kendall Smith, 6-0, 6-1, to make it a 2-2 match.  

From there, Suffolk earned a point on court four, three and six, in that order, to pick up the conference victory. Mosquera downed Oronski, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 4. Barbara Consales beat Ferrera, 6-1, 6-3 and Blade sealed the victory with a 6-1, 6-1, triumph over Turner-Burrell in the sixth spot.  

With the match already decided in the Rams' favor, Prescott's 7-5, 6-1, victory at No. 5 made it the final 6-3 score.

5 – Bianca Prescott defeated Grace Coopee, 7-5, 6-1
6 – Alyssa Blade defeated Lily Turner-Burrell, 6-1, 6-1

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk and Curry met for the first time. 
  • The Rams recorded their first CCC victory.
  • Suffolk began its home scheduled in the win column for the first time since 2015 when it bested Bridgewater, 5-4, in the home and season opener Sept. 3, 2015. 
  • Mosquera remains unbeaten in singles action in her collegiate career. The freshman owns a 2-0 record  split between the fourth and fifth position, respectively. 
  • Mosquera notched her first-ever golden set. 
  • Suffolk's double teams Clasu and Prescott and Blade and Mosquera each put together golden matches. 
  • Blade and Mosquera are undefeated (2-0) when playing doubles together. 
  • Claus and Prescott parented for the first time in doubles action.
