Medina Picks Up First GNAC Corvias Player of the Week Honor

BOSTON – Suffolk women's tennis standout Valentina Medina, who grabbed a record six rookie of the week accolades last season, began the 2016 campaign as the top player of the conferenve over seven days, being named the GNAC Corvias Player of the Week the league announced Monday afternoon.

The junior continued her storied success in blue-and-gold, notching four victories in a two-match week. Against Rhode Island in the season opener, she teamed up with Isabel Reathlev for an 8-5 triumph over Dayna Reilly and Julie Reddy on the top doubles court. She followed that with a 7-6, 6-1, second slot singles win over Reddy.

In the Rams' first win of the season, a 6-3 decision over Salve Regina, Medina partnered with Rathlev once again. The pair took down Emma Gruber and Priscilla Gaspard, 8-2. In singles, Medina only lost one point to easily cruise past Gruber, 6-0, 6-1, as Suffolk's ace.

Medina is the lone Ram undefeated on the season and looks to continue her success tonight as Suffolk travels to Roger Williams.
