Semis Secured: Women’s Soccer Upsets Roger Williams in CCC Quarterfinals, 2-1

BRISTOL, R.I. – Lily Goldmann potted a goal with less than 10 minutes remaining to break a 1-1 tie and help the seventh-seeded Suffolk women's soccer team stun second seed Roger Williams, 2-1, in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Quarterfinals Saturday at Bayside Field.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 2 | Roger Williams 0
RECORDS: Suffolk (8-7-3) | Roger Williams (9-7-4)

HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless first half, Suffolk was the first team to break through in the second. Daniela Petronio put a ball on the frame of the cage. Coco Marelli made the initial save, but Klaudia Rushi picked up the rebound and put it away to give the Rams the lead, 1-0, at the 59:57 mark.

Just over a minute later the Hawks responded. Rachel Oster found Bianca Robbins on a breakaway opportunity to level things at 1-all.

Goldmann put on her hero hat in the 81st minute when she scored the eventual game-winner. A deep kick by Hawks keeper bounced off a Rams player and the rock rolled to Goldmann's boots. Suffolk's sophomore buried the shot into the corner to push the blue-and-gold in front, 2-1.

That score stood the rest of the way as neither team managed to get a shot on target.
